We have had a request from an author and they are looking for a student artist to design some cover work for a book they have written. The details we have are:
1. The story: is about King Shahryar & Shahrazad.
2. Time scale: if it is possible 2-3 weeks
3. Budget: £50
If you are interested then please contact the author on sali2007@hotmail.co.uk
Please note BuyStudentArt are just letting you know, any work taking place is entirely between you and the author.
Did everyone have a good summer? I was all Rule Britannia and made it to the Olympic Park a few times. I booked Paralympic tickets when we couldn’t get any other tickets and am so pleased we did, we say loads, had a wonderful time, got to admit I cried whenever I heard the National Anthem but that might have something to do with me being hormonal…..I now have a 7 week old little girl called Connie! I had Olympic tickets to the rowing but Connie decided not to come out until late so had to pass on them!
She is brilliant, a real gem, but I am back on the working front and have been busy advertising BuyStudentArt. We are putting together an advertising and marketing strategy so stay posted as more information is coming soon with this, do remember though that we do need your help, whenever you have artwork uploaded do click on the facebook and twitter icons to tell all your friends about us.
So thats our summer news, whats new with you??
I get asked this question a lot at BuyStudentArt, people don’t have the budget they used to have and especially being a student we dont have 100′s or 10′s of pounds to slash out on advertising – so what can you do that is free (or with a little bit of time?).
Here are a few ideas for you!
Have you created a facebook page for you as an artist? Once you have you are welcome to load it onto our facebook page here – https://www.facebook.com/BuyStudentArt and we will advertise for you?
Have you looked at uploading your artwork to Buy Student Art? We only charge a commission when you sell, so low risk (or should that be no risk) to you.
Have you told all of your friends and family? Word of mouth is an amazing form of advertising and its FREE!! Perhaps get some cheap business cards produced, I love Moo cards, where you can have a piece of your artwork on the back of each card – genius!
What have you done to advertise cheaply? Any ideas you want to share?
Last night was the annual Toast of Surrey awards night, and we were finalists in the Young Business of the Year. We had an amazing night (wore our glad rags!), managed to get there on time, (which in itself was a miracle),met some amazing people and generally had a ball.
We didn’t win, that went to Busy Lizzy Mums but as a Surrey Mum I congratulate them!
I’ll add some photos once I have some (the ones from the iPhone aren’t that amazing!).

The word photography was coined in 1839 at the Royal Society and comes from the Greek photos and graphe, which together mean ‘drawing with light’. It has come a long way since it’s scientific beginnings and these days, photography is just as respected an art form as drawing itself. In fact the most expensive photograph ever sold going for well over 3 million dollars at auction!
Sadly, my budget won’t quite stretch to that. Happily, I’ve discovered that Buy Student Art is packed with photographic talent- here are five under £50 that could gladly grace my walls…
Here’s an example!

How easy is it to network in the artworld?
I talk to anyone, I am pretty famous (infamous) for chatting to people next to me on the train / plane (I tend to draw the line on the underground!); but was I networking?
I asked someone recently how to define networking and they said the following which I think for me sums it up:
“dont talk at people, explain what you do and how you can help them, then they will remember you”.
Quite often I dont like to mention what I do as I dont want to sound as though I am showing off……but I have branded items I use a lot which often starts conversations, my oyster card holder, my phone cover and my diary are all branded, but why dont we like shouting our achievements?
Do you think the same is true in the artworld? How many times are you embarrassed to tell people what you do? You don’t like to mention your artwork? You don’t put your photos of your artwork on your personal Facebook or twitter page? shout out how amazing you are from the rooftops.
If you want us to do it for you then we will happily cover your artwork in our blog, just drop us an email at Info@BuyStudentArt.co.uk and we’ll be in touch
Andy Warhol famously said ‘in the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes’. Well, if there’s anyone who knew their onions when it came to art it was Mr Warhol!
It seems to me that if Warhol were still with us today he’d be a big fan of Buy Student Art. After all, where else on the web do student artists get such a great shot at their 15 minutes of fame? By the look of Carrie Spencer’s images of two of Warhol’s most famous subjects, some of them might even have given the King of Pop (Art) a run for his money…

“I don’t like art and I certainly won’t collect it”, this is what one person told me recently at a networking event. She then took out her wallet which had pictures drawn by her children and a keying with a photo from her holiday in? Is this seen as art? I think so.
I have art in my house which is by my 4 year old, brought from trips abroad, of course, from Buy Student Art (think I must be one of our best customers!) and from galleries. I put them up on the wall because I like them; not because they are collectable, but its horses for courses. I have a real problem (and this might be contentious) with “experts” who tell you what to collect, what to sell and what to bin….of course, this is their career, but for me, shove on your walls what you like, you’re the one who has to look at it every day…..my one word of advice would be –make it unique – not another bloody Ikea print!
We got the letter through the post on Friday which said that we have been selected as one of the finalists for the Toast of Surrey Awards 2012, for the Young Business of the year sponsored by Guildford Borough Council.
It’s a wonderful accolade and we are pleased that our web designers B:Web are also up for an award, so its bound to be a fabulous awards night.
Marnie Wilson, editorial director of Get Surrey, said: “Congratulations to our very worthy finalists – I’m always amazed at the variety of entries we receive and staggered by the quality.
